Bartenders are like psychologists. They get a peek into our lives in a way no other does. They can disconnect emotionally while listening. They are known to pass advice gained over years of similar outpours. And to top it off, they know just the right drink to raise our dopamine.
The Community Mental Health Journal even published an article stating that bartenders are valuable mental health gatekeepers in America. So the next time you pour your heart out, tip that bartender like she’s a shrink.
Here are four relationships advice my bartender shared with me.
#1. Ditch the small talk go straight for the fun stuff
A lot of people get dates through social media and dating apps. Then come to the bar eager to hit it off… but many fail.
One party will arrive too early and the other too late. They’ll hug awkwardly, followed by several embarrassing attempts at avoiding eye contact. I’ll bring the menu. And they’ll take forever to order. More than anything else, what gives them away is their stunted conversation:
